Celebrities vow to "never forget" and pay their respects to the lives lost and forever changed.

Today marks 21 years since the horrific crash of Flight 93 and attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

On the somber 21st anniversary of 9/11, many celebrities reflected on the lives lost or lives forever changed by the horrible tragedy and honored the heroes who sprang into action following the tragedy.

Former Scandal star Kerry Washington shared a powerful reminder of unity with her Twitter followers, "Let’s never forget what we’re capable of doing together. I ♥️ You NY. #911day," she wrote.

Blue Bloods actress Bridget Moynahan paid her respects with her comment, "Remember always. #neverforget 9/11," alongside a photo of the "Tribute in Light" art installation–which displays bright lights shining high into the sky in remembrance of all those we've lost.

The installation consists of 88 vertical searchlights arranged in two light columns representing the Twin Towers and shining brightly in their place.

Apollo XI Astronaut and Moonwalker Dr. Buzz Aldrin shared a similar photo with a touching caption.

"21 years ago, on this fateful day, we remember September 11th, 2001 – it is a time to reflect and remember the victims, the survivors, and the heroes of that day. #neverforget".

Former Yankees shortstop turned businessman Derek Jeter also paid his respects via a statement made on Twitter: "Honoring the lives that we lost 21 years ago today. Never forget."

While former New York Rangers hockey player Henrik Lundqvist reflected on the city's heroes and communities: "Every time this day comes around I reflect on this city, how much i enjoy being part of it...I appreciate you New York! [sic]," he wrote, in part.

Peewee Herman shared a very meaningful mosaic of the Twin Towers alongside the caption,  "Look closely, this mosaic of the Twin Towers was made with photos of 9/11 victims 💔#NeverForget #NeverForget911 (unknown source)."
