Kern Gateway looks to expand Kern River trail, host arts festival

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A 15 mile hiking trail may soon be coming to the Kern River Canyon.

The Kern Gateway Trail would consist of some existing trails, but most are not well developed, lacking signage, parking or restrooms.

Leah Carter and David Gordon with Kern Gateway Trail joined 17 News at Noon to speak about the proposed hiking trail and upcoming arts festival.

The proposed trail would run along the Kern River, but it will take some time to before the community can begin to enjoy it. “It takes time, there is a lot of stakeholders we have to work with…the forest service, we also have private land owners that we’re working with and the parks department.”
