This Kentucky Couple Is Getting Married — 50 Years After Getting Divorced

Fifty years after divorcing, 83-year-old Harold Holland and 78-year-old Lillian Barnes are showing the world that true love can come full circle.

According to the Lexington Herald Leader, the couple from Kentucky met at a restaurant called the Salt Lick and married in 1955. From there, the pair had 5 children together before splitting up in 1967. According to Holland, his job kept him away from the family, which may have caused their breakup.

“It was 100 percent my fault,” he told the Herald Leader. But, all those years later, Holland was given the extraordinary opportunity to redeem himself.

Following their split, both Barnes and Holland went on to remarry. Both their spouses passed away in 2015, and after their spouses’ deaths a family reunion brought both Barnes and Holland together again. It wasn't long before that old, familiar loving feeling came back. By December of 2017, the pair decided it was time to renew their vows and walk down the aisle together one last time.

“We decided we want to walk the last mile together,” Holland said.

To make their reunion and wedding even more spectacular, their own grandson, Joshua Holland, who happens to also be a minister from New Orleans, will perform their wedding ceremony on April 14 at Trinity Baptist Church, according to the Herald Leader.

As for what the two have learned about marriage over the last five decades, Holland said “We’ll go do whatever we want to, whenever we want to do it. I’ll take her wherever she wants to go.”
