The decision whether or not to have kids is deeply personal, no matter how often Kris Jenner (or anyone else) pressures you to have a baby. Kendall Jenner opened up about one reason she’s “scared” to have children one day, and it’s something many women can relate to.

In Thursday’s episode of The Kardashians, the model was talking to Scott Disick about her dog Pyro. “I need someone to help me with my dog,” she said, per Page Six. “He’s just wild. I’m having serious issues with him.”

This led to a conversation about anxiety. She explained that Pyro has “separation anxiety,” and she thinks she could be influencing him. “I have anxiety, and I think he has anxiety,” Jenner said. “Maybe I’m the problem. Maybe he feels my anxiety? I could be the problem.”

Disick asked her if she has “that much anxiety,” and she responded, “Yeah, I feel really bad lately. It’s one of the reasons why I’m actually scared to have children.”

Later, she told Disick, ‌“Honestly, the scariest part for me is, am I just going to get worse throughout life? Because I feel like it’s worse than ever right now. The older I get, is it just going to get worse and worse?”

As someone with generalized anxiety disorder, I completely get where Jenner is coming from. I have three kids, and I have often worried if I would pass my anxiety on to them. I’ve also had moments of crippling anxiety that has affected my ability to feel fully present as a mom, leading to feelings of guilt and shame. After my third child was born, I was able to get on medication that helped, and I also regularly go to therapy to learn coping mechanisms to keep my anxiety at bay, which has helped tremendously.

At the same time, not wanting kids because of anxiety is completely valid (as is any reason not to have children). But if she does want kids, it’s heartbreaking to think that she feels like she can’t due to anxiety. There is help available, and no one should ever feel like anxiety is stopping them from having the life they want — celebrity or not.

Recently, rumors flew that Jenner was pregnant with Bad Bunny’s baby, after a deceiving photo went around the internet. (It turned out to be the butt of someone walking past her.) I can only imagine how awful rumors like this would be for anyone, but especially if having kids is something that causes you major anxiety.

During a previous episode of The Kardashians, the Victoria’s Secret model confronted her mom about pressuring her to have kids. “You keep telling me, ‘You’re not getting any younger.’ But guess what? It’s my life,” she told Kris, per Us Weekly. “I don’t know if I’m ready yet.”

Later, Kris called their family doctor to ask if Kendall should freeze her eggs (which is super intrusive, BTW), and Kendall told her mom: “I still have a lot to figure out before I can, like, welcome a child into my life. I’m still, like, enjoying life on my own. And I’m OK with that right now.” And that’s all that matters!
