Kendall Jenner Offended Other Models in Her “Love” Interview

Kendall Jenner may proverbially be putting her high-heeled foot in her mouth after stirring up controversy with recent comments about the modeling industry.

In a new interview for the September issue with LOVE magazine, Kendall spoke out about some of the challenges she's faced in her career as a professional model. The magazine posted a photo of Kendall from her shoot to Instagram and used one of her quotes alongside it. "'Since the beginning we’ve been super selective about what shows I would do. I was never one of those girls who would do like 30 shows a season or whatever the f*ck those girls do. More power to ‘em. But I had a million jobs, not only catwalks but everything else. The whole combination was very overwhelming and I started to freak out a little bit and needed to take a step back,' says the 22-year-old, admitting that she “was on the verge of a mental breakdown,” the magazine captioned the black-and-white shot of Kendall posing topless in multiple strands of pearls.

Other models took immediate notice of Kendall's words, which many interpreted as a dig at their own work.

"Honestly, Kendall, just keep your f*cking mouth shut," wrote model Julia Ratner on her Instagram Story alongside the quote, "I was never one of those girls who would do like 30 shows a season or whatever the f*ck those girls do."

"Seriously?!?! Being lazy is not being selective. We work! hard and giving 100% from us, but you can't say that for yourself... and after all you dare talk like this?!" wrote model Faretta on top of a screenshot of the offending post, which she shared on her own Story.

"Never been so indirectly and publicly offended in my whole entire life god damn!!!!!!!!!! to be called a supermodel... how easy it comes to you," model Irina Djuranovic captioned yet another version of the post, with the phrase "I was never one of those girls who would do like 30 shows a season or whatever the f*ck those girls do" underlined.

"'... whatever the f*ck those girls do' is do their very best and make their way up AND try to make some money so that they can provide for themselves and their families," wrote model Daria Strokous, before spilling even more tea. "Oh, and it's 70 shows a season by the way, and we all are f*cking proud of every single one of the girls that did it."

She went on to share a series of photos of models who do walk in "30 shows a season or whatever," including Kate Moss, Coco Rocha, and Jourdan Dunn. She also points out that succeeding in the industry also requires waking up regularly for 5 a.m. casting calls and risking your ankles for the sake of a pair of high heels. "All of that because we are f*cking fearless. And working with these designers is a f*cking dream come true and nothing compares to the 10 seconds of walking on that runway."

It's not just her fellow models who are upset over Kendall's statements — people have spoken out in the comments section of the Instagram post, too. "Be respectful of your colleagues, most models don't book everything or are handed jobs. Not all of them have 100 million followers or a tv show or a famous last name," wrote one user. "Well this is absolutely crazy. She doesn’t know how hard most models have to work and to make a comment like that is just a step backward. Sad," wrote another.

Others stepped to her defense, calling out the girl-on-girl hate that cropped up so quickly in the wake of these comments. "from an outsider, these comments seem a bit of an over-reaction to a comment taken out of context. every is so quick to jump on the hate train. can't say she isn't a great model and yes you all deserve the shot at it," one fan commented.

Kendall Jenner has not yet responded to the controversy.
