The country couple is divorcing after nearly five years of marriage.
On Monday, August 29, Ballerini confirmed the news on her Instagram Story, calling it a “deeply difficult decision” as a result of “a journey of love, growth, and effort that ultimately has come to an end.”
“I’ve always tried my best to share my life with you in a real and vulnerable way, while also protecting layers of my personal life as they unfold,” she began in the note.
“This is now public record so I wanted you to hear it from me directly that I am going through a divorce,” the “Heartfirst” singer added.
She continued: “It’s extremely hard to find the words here… but I feel extremely grateful for the years of marriage to Morgan and hopeful for the next seasons.”
Evans has yet to comment on the divorce.
PEOPLE confirmed the news, stating that Ballerini filed for divorce from the “Kiss Somebody” singer on Friday, August 26.
The duo met in March 2016 while co-hosting the CMC Awards in Australia. They got engaged in December of that same year and wed a year and a half later.
