Kelly Rowland Revealed the One Thing That Really Makes Her Feel Like a Calm Mama

Singer, musician, actress, author, mom—Kelly Rowland is many things, and apparently neat freak is one of them. We recently hopped on the phone with the superstar to talk about all things mom-related, including her new partnership with Clorox and Donors Choose, and learned that before her son Titan was even born, she was very particular about keeping things totally safe and clean.

"You know those rolls of Clorox wipes? I went through the whole house [with those] even before he was born. I Cloroxed every single thing...[It got to the point] where my husband came home one day and was like, 'Oh, come on baby, you went too far!'" Rowland laughed. Surprisingly, Rowland said a clean house smell actually makes her feel calm, even through the tough parenting moments.

"I was always raised like that. [My] mom was a nanny and housekeeper and she kept all those houses clean and I'll never forget just how clean it smelled and I wanted the same thing when I had my baby."

But even for someone as accomplished as Rowland, she knows being a perfect mom isn't all that realistic and there are a lot of wtf-just-happened moments mixed in with the wonderfully exciting milestones.

While she talks about a lot of unexpected parenting events in her book, it's the really emotional moments that she said she felt unprepared for, like the first time Titan told her "I love you."

"Or we were in Australia and he took my hand in the car and said 'Mommy, you’re my best friend' and then he fell asleep. Now while he's sleeping imagine a grown woman just sobbing in silence because I didn’t want to wake him up! Nobody really tells you about those moments and how gratifying it feels. [Your child doesn't] even realize that it’s in those moments that they’re telling you you’re doing a good job."

If that doesn't make you want to call your mom immediately, then we don't know what would.
