Kelly Ripa Shuts Down Critics Judging Her On-Air Appearance During Quarantine
Like everyone, Kelly Ripa is doing her own hair and makeup during quarantine. But unlike the rest of us, the TV host broadcasts her DIY glam in front of millions of viewers each day during at-home tapings of Live with Kelly and Ryan — which, unfortunately, has lead to some unwanted commentary about her appearance.
On Friday, Ripa shut down social media users accusing her and co-host Ryan Seacrest of looking "shiny" on air since self-isolating. “I don’t care. I have a new outlook on life,” she told Seacrest about the criticism. “Certain things don’t matter any more and my appearance is one of those things that just don’t matter.”
She then shared a message directly to those judging their looks. "First of all, let me just say, to people commenting about our appearance, 'How dare you and you’re lucky that we actually put clothes on,'" she said. "It’s harder than you think to roll out of bed and come to a TV show."
After weeks of working from home, the 49-year-old shared she's so over doing her own glam, that she's "this close" to live-streaming the show from her laptop in bed. But she assured fans it won't get to that point. "I keep telling myself, 'You’re a professional and this is still a TV show and the days matter,'" she said of her decision to continue to do the show from her office. "It’s my mantra."
In April, Ripa revealed that most of her beauty products have been locked away in the studio during the coronavirus pandemic, forcing her to get crafty at home. "I keep putting on my daughter's self-tanner, thinking that will help," she admitted during an Instagram Live session with dancer Tiler Peck.

Seemingly running out of self-tanner, Kelly said she's now using any makeup she can find around the house.
“I’m not proud of this. I for one have not ordered makeup and I’m just using what I have,” she said on Friday's episode of the show. “Some of it, I’m sure, is probably toxic. It’s probably way past its expiration date.” Desperate times call for desperate measures.
