Kelly Ripa Reveals Who She’ll Be Rooting for at the Super Bowl (and Princess Diana Would Totally Approve)

It appears that Kelly Ripa is just as royally obsessed as we are! The 52-year-old talk show host shared a photo to her Instagram Story of a gift that was sent to her by a friend, and this present combined Ripa's love of one of this year's Super Bowl contenders (the Philadelphia Eagles) with a beloved royal: Princess Diana.

The LIVE with Kelly and Ryan co-host showed off a mug that was sent to her by pal Tara Shields, which depicts Lady Di wearing that iconic Philadelphia Eagles bomber jacket. Over the photo, Ripa wrote, “Thank you @taraleahshields !!!!!” She also included a sticker with the Eagles logo and text that read, “Let's fly” with the Rocky theme song “Gonna Fly Now” playing in the background.

The mug was designed by artist and small business owner Jennifer Vallez. Shields showed her appreciation for Vallez on her own Story, where she wrote, “Thank you, @sophieandlili, for your creativity, love & fastest delivery on the planet.”

For those who are interested, the mug is actually for sale on Vallez's website here, where buyers can get the 11-ounce version for $25 or the 15-ounce one for $28. There are also other Princess Diana designs on the site, like this mug, which highlights the royal's many iconic ensembles. (They're both dishwasher and microwave safe too, BTW.)

PureWow's own Director of Special Projects, Rachel Bowie, recently did a deep dive into the history of the Eagles jacket and how Princess Diana came to wear it.

It turns out that when Lady Di first sported it in 1991, she had never actually been to a Philadelphia Eagles game. But she met Jack Edelstein, who happened to be the statistician for the team, while attending the funeral of Princess Grace of Monaco in 1982, as he was a friend of Grace’s brother. While chatting with him, Princess Diana learned that two of the Eagles' colors are green and silver, which also happened to be her favorite colors. So Edelstein sent her the jacket along with a few other gifts, and the rest was fashion history.

Ripa, meanwhile, has shown her love for the Eagles for years.

In fact, back in 2018, the All My Children alum sported a pair of green and silver heels during an episode of LIVE. “It's an Eagle tribute,” she said as she flashed them for the audience. “It's the Eagles colors—sort of, kind of.” At the time, the Philadelphia Eagles were headed to Super Bowl LII, which they actually ended up winning—good luck charm, anyone?
