Kelly Ripa, 49, just shared a new hack to help manage gray roots.
The Live with Kelly and Ryan host said she uses clips to hold down her gray strands, which tend to stand up.
Ripa has been documenting her gray root growth during quarantine.
Kelly Ripa’s gray roots have made numerous appearances during quarantine, but the Live with Kelly and Ryan host recently found a brilliant solution for taming them. On Thursday’s show, Ripa rocked two large clips in hair. She told Ryan Seacrest that she was using them to help cover up her grays, which “has a different texture” than her blonde strands.
“Anyone with gray hair can tell you, it’s very wired. It tends to stand up, and yes, I’m spraying my roots with the touch-up spray and it looks dark,” she explained. “These little clips, and you can see I’ve sprayed them brown too, these little clips really like, hold the gray.”
“It looks blonde to me,” a confused Seacrest replied, per People. “That’s good. That’s excellent. It’s all part of my sinister plan to fool you,” Ripa jokingly replied.

In late April, Ripa showed off her silver on live TV while filming from home. “Anybody that follows me on Instagram knows that [my hair] is sprayed,” she said while parting her hair towards the camera. “You can kind of see it forcing. It wants to show you. It wants you to see the reality.”
Ripa has also been sharing updates on her on Instagram, which she dubbed as #RootWatch.
Because desperate times call for desperate measures, the TV host even gave herself a trim. “I’m not going to lie, I cut my own hair,” she said. “I used kitchen scissors, we obviously don’t have haircutting scissors.”
Despite Ripa’s countless attempts to cover up her grays, her husband Mark Consuelos is apparently a huge fan of the natural look. “Since I met you, you told me that you’re gray,” he said. “And I gotta tell you, I see you in the morning and I think it looks beautiful. I like it. I’m looking forward to when it’s just completely gray.”
