Things got interesting on Wednesday’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, where the titular co-hosts pulled out an unusual story about their friend and some peppers.

It all started when the pair were presented with a bowl of spicy habanero peppers. During this moment, Kelly Ripa, 53, and Mark Consuelos, 52, were talking about a trend, where people rub their lips with peppers to make them look more plump.

“I saw this thing on TikTok because I clicked on an article,” Ripa said. “I was scrolling through my news feed and it said: ‘The most effective way to plump up your lips without lip filler.’”

However, it turns out that in these videos, the TikTok creators were using jalapeño peppers to plump up their lips...but the peppers on Live were habanero (which are about five times hotter).

Consuelos then pointed out that the trend can be very dangerous. “Once you touch these things, and you touch something else…,” he said, while gesturing to different areas on his body. “...It's very irritating.”

Ripa then recalled a story about their friend, named Kyle (a story she actually shared on the show back in 2017). She said, “Yes, remember when Kyle made his guacamole and accidentally touched the spicy peppers?” To which her hubby chimed in, adding, “And then he touched his no-no place.” (This, of course, resulted in laughter from the audience.)

“That was the day the barbecue was canceled,” Ripa joked.

Needless to say, the Live Wire author did not end up trying the trend. However, her former All My Children co-star touched one of the peppers with his finger and tasted it, saying that it was “very hot.”

We've certainly learned not to repeat Kyle's mistakes.
