Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Gave a Million-Dollar Donation to the Coronavirus Cause

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are doing their part to ensure they help quell the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) throughout the country.

The pair have donated a whopping $1 million in an effort to help relief efforts, according to People. Part of it will reportedly be given to the New York Governor's Office in a bid to purchase additional ventilators. The other half will be given to WIN, an organization that runs women's shelters in New York City.

While neither Ripa nor Consuelos have commented directly on the extremely kind gesture, it's important to note that their actions make plenty of sense. New York has been hit hard by the pandemic, as has the rest of the country. There have been a massive 10,201 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United States alone, with 149 deaths comprising the death toll.

Previously, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively lead the charge when it comes to celebrity donors. The couple donated $1 million themselves to food organizations in both the United States and Canada.

"Covid-19 has brutally impacted older adults and low income families," said Reynolds. "Blake and I are donating $1 million to be split between FEEDING AMERICA and FOOD BANKS CANADA."

The million has been the magic word for others as well. Ciara and Russell Wilson made the vow to offer a million meal for non-profit Food LifeLine. The Seattle-based charity would provide meals to those affected by the coronavirus.

"We want to encourage everyone out there to join us in whatever way that you can, big or small. Everything makes a difference. Everything that we do together makes a difference," said Ciara.

As we inch closer toward a potential lull in new cases (and maybe even a time where this is no longer required), we'll likely see additional celebritie following in Ripa and Consuelos's steps. For now, be sure you're self-isolating when you can and practicing social distancing.
