Kelly Clarkson was Selena Gomez’s biggest cheerleader when the Rare artist said she wasn’t the “greatest singer”

International Women’s Day may be behind us (boo!), but Kelly Clarkson just proved that every day is a good day to celebrate your fellow female. Selena Gomez paid a visit to Clarkson’s The Kelly Clarkson Show last week and talked about her newest album, Rare. And when Gomez began to express negative feelings about her talents, Clarkson nipped that right in the bud—and fast.

“I’ve constantly been trying to make my music better and better because…I know people may not think I’m the greatest singer, but I just work my ass off,” Gomez said of her intent behind the album. “I really love writing and creating and creating melodies and growing. I felt like this was my chance to say all things I wanted to say.”

Clarkson instantly picked up on Gomez’s “people may not think I’m the greatest singer” comment and wanted to flip the script.

“The best singer in the world is not the loudest,” Clarkson told Gomez. “And it’s not the, ‘Oh my god, you have to sing like Whitney Houston.’ The best singers in the world move you, and that comes from all different sounds and styles.”

Clarkson went on, “From a singer to a singer, it’s beautiful what you do. And I love your record….I love singing your music. It means something and it moves people. So don’t ever negate your gift—because it’s powerful.”

We’re doing the women-supporting-women happy dance right now and planning our “don’t ever negate your gift” forehead tattoo.

It’s not the first time Clarkson has sent her support to fellow women artists. During Taylor Swift’s legal battle with Scooter Braun, the Voice coach tweeted out her industry advice.

So yes, although International Women’s Day has come to a close, we’ll gladly take a page from Kelly Clarkson’s book and build up our gal pals whenever they dare to say they are anything less than perfect.
