Taking notes from Kelsea Ballerini, Kelly Clarkson is changing up her song lyrics to tell the story of her divorce.

Clarkson has already gotten attention for altered lyrics while performing a cover of Gayle's "abcdefu" during her Las Vegas residency, and now she's changing up her own song about her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.

During her Aug. 5 show, Clarkson introduced her 2015 hit song, "Piece By Piece," saying, “This song I initially wrote just super hopeful, right? And well, sometimes hopeful turns into hopeless, so here we go, ‘Piece by Piece.'"

The song's original version praised Blackstock for being a good parent and partner, in contrast with Clarkson's challenging childhood. Clarkson sang in the 2015 version, "But piece by piece, he collected me up/Off the ground, where you abandoned things, yeah/Piece by piece, he filled the holes that you burned in me/At six years old and you know."

In her altered version, Clarkson changed the pronoun "he" to "I," signifying her personal strength and resilience.

Clarkson also changed another part of the song, which originally went, “He never walks away/He never asks for money/He takes care of me/He loves me." In Las Vegas, Clarkson sang to her fans, “I just walk away/when they ask for money/I take care of me/’cause I love me.”

The updated version of "Piece By Piece" also featured the new lyrics, “Piece by piece, I restored my faith/That a heart can still beat, even when it breaks,” and “I’ll take care of things when you leave scars.” The lines replaced other sections of the song that praised Blackstock.

Many complimented and supported the star on social media, with one reply saying, "this new lyrics are so good! i hope she re-records it with this version bc it literally gave me chills."

Another wrote, "I love this woman and her music to death."

The 41-year-old has been very open about her difficult divorce from Blackstock and how she feels now. Thankfully, Clarkson's music helps her express those emotions, and her fans are fully supportive of her.
