Kelly Clarkson isn't trying to fool anyone. In June, the singer and Daytime Emmy-winning talk show host filed for divorce from her husband of nearly seven years, Brandon Blackstock, and now, she's opening up about how hard things have been since the split. In an interview on Sunday Today with Willie Geist, Clarkson got candid about her divorce and how hard life has been over the last couple of months.

"I mean, it’s no secret. My life has been a little bit of a dumpster," Clarkson said.

She continued, adding how necessary she thinks it is for those going through divorce to have a support system. “I’ve been talking to friends that have been through divorce," she said. "I don’t know how people go through that without having some kind of outlet because it is the worst thing ever for everyone involved.”

Clarkson said she's been channeling her emotions into her music, sharing that her latest album, which is expected to drop next year, is "the most personal one I've ever released."

“The whole record is basically every emotion you experience from the beginning of a relationship to the end of what it is now or where it is now," she continued. "It’s been very therapeutic for me. It’s very honest.”

Clarkson explained that writing about these aspects of her life in her music has brought along new experiences—like her kids jamming out to songs about her divorce. "There's one [song] that my kids sing in the car, because I'm going through mixes, and I'm like, 'This is weird,'" she joked. However, she explained that her kids, River, 6, and Remington, 4, don't actually know what they're singing about.

Though Clarkson has been honest with the media about her divorce, she told the Los Angeles Times on Friday that, for her children's sake, she still plans to keep some things private. (Clarkson is also stepmom to her ex's two kids, Savannah and Seth.)

“I am a very open person, but I’m not going to be able to be truly open about this in certain aspects because there’s kids involved,” she said. “I think that I will navigate a way in which to be open and honest about it eventually, probably via [The Kelly Clarkson Show], and it’ll probably, I’m assuming, happen organically when someone says something in conversation or something. It definitely wouldn’t be planned.”

She continued: “There are a lot of little hearts involved in this and while people feel, ‘Oh, my gosh, what a loss,’ imagine how it is in the epicenter of the storm. It’s a lot to process and deal with, just as a family. So, because it’s not just me, I probably won’t go too deep with it.”
