  • Kelly Clarkson used the season premiere of her talk show to highlight the doormen and doorwomen of New York City

  • She singled out one doorman who uses his spare time to help "feed and clothe more than 100 unhoused people in Manhattan"

  • Clarkson hooked up every doorman and doorwoman in attendance with a four-day trip to Saint Lucia, airfare included

With the recent writer's strike resolved, the gears of daytime talk shows can finally begin turning again. While some shows are reportedly grappling with alienating the folks who worked on those shows, one increasingly popular show decided to kick off its fifth season by paying tribute to a segment of often overlooked workers.

As Parade reports, to celebrate her first taping at her new New York City-based filming location, Kelly Clarkson wanted to do something to pay tribute to the city that doesn't sleep. And that means giving back to the people who work tirelessly each day outside the buildings that make up the city's famous skyline: the doormen and doorwomen of New York City.

The audience for the show was filled with the workers, all in their uniforms. Clarkson even took time to highlight one particular doorman, Noel Maguire. Maguire not only works days in and day out opening doors and greeting those who come through his building, but he also "helps feed and clothe more than 100 unhoused people in Manhattan."

Clarkson commended Maguire for his altruism and revealed that she had a special surprise for him and all the other doormen and doorwomen in attendance: a four-day Caribbean vacation to Saint Lucia.

Before any of the recipients could even ask themselves, "Oh, but how will I get there?" Clarkson brought out a troupe of Jet Blue flight attendants and revealed that the airfare will also be covered. The flight attendants then distributed plane tickets and complimentary Champagne to all the attendees.

Now, this is undoubtedly a wonderful gesture, but let us consider for a moment that, in honoring the oft-overlooked doormen and doorwomen, we were reminded of the oft-overlooked flight attendants who are, in a way, the doormen and doorwomen of the skies. So now, surely not wanting to be rude, Clarkson will have to hook them up with a free trip, which will probably reveal yet more overlooked workers deserving of free trips, and so on.

What we're saying is that The Kelly Clarkson Show has a lot of material to work with in this new season now, but their gift budget just skyrocketed.
