Kelly Clarkson Explains If She'd Ever Return to 'The Voice'

Kelly Clarkson wears many hats. From being an international pop star, to a talk show host, mom of two and former coach on The Voice, the American Idol season 1 winner is a woman of many talents. But would she ever return to The Voice?
During a recent interview with USA Today, Clarkson opened up about her decision to move The Kelly Clarkson Show from Los Angeles to New York City for its fifth season, which kicked off on Oct. 16. The host got a fresh start in the Big Apple following her divorce with Brandon Blackstock, with whom she shares two kids, River and Remy.
"What's cool for me with season 5 is I am in such a great place, not only with my kids, but with me personally and with the show," Clarkson told the outlet. "I feel like a weight has lifted. That move was very needed."

The mom of two went on to share what she's "most excited" about for her show this time around is "just showing up to work smiling and actually meaning it."
Clarkson added, "That's a beautiful gift that you don't realize until you're out of it."
Since her move to the East Coast, the three-time Grammy winner has also found happiness in not overcommitting herself to too many projects–which is why she left NBC's The Voice in spring 2023.
"Full disclosure, I put on a smile a lot of those times because I was struggling a lot in my personal life," Clarkson said. "I've learned a lot about what I'm capable of handling, and also what you should not handle."

Unfortunately for fans of Clarkson and The Voice, returning as a coach isn't part of her plan.
"That was me saying, 'Bye,' to The Voice and having this big move," she explained. "I love that family, but I was like, 'I'm struggling. I can't smile anymore. I don't feel like smiling.'"

Fans can still tune into The Kelly Clarkson Show—where they perhaps catch a segment with The Voices vibes, as the show's executive producer, Alex Duda, teased.
"There’s so much undiscovered talent around the city," he told USA Today. "Go out, bring them back and just play with the band. Why not?”
It seems like Clarkson has found genuine happiness as she settles into her new home, scales back on her work commitments and soaks in this new chapter of her life. Who knows? Maybe she'll return to The Voice one day for a one-off guest mentoring role!
