Kelly Clarkson Debuted a Sleek Lob on the 2018 Billboard Music Awards Red Carpet

Kelly Clarkson kicked off her hosting gig at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night with a bang — namely, by ditching her long, face-framing bangs in favor of a shorter, sleeker look. The singer walked the red carpet at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas while sporting a chic, straightened lob that was parted in the middle and cropped to just below her shoulders.

Clarkson’s summery new cut perfectly highlighted her dramatic, high-collared dress. The floor-length black gown was designed by Christian Siriano and featured an asymmetrical neckline, silver studs on the Maleficent-esque collar, a wide leather belt around the waist, and a high slit up her left leg. She completed the gorgeous look with orangy-red lipstick, collarbone-skimming earrings, black studded heels, and a sparkly beaded clutch.

Though this is the first time in recent history that Clarkson has forgone her long waves on the red carpet, she actually first showed off the shorter cut earlier this month, on an episode of The Voice. At the time, she shared a photo of her new look on Instagram; her hairstylist Robert Ramos styled the lob with a side part and loose, beachy waves. A few weeks later, the 36-year-old went extension-less once again, wearing her lob in the same sleek, middle-parted style that she did on Sunday night. In between those photos and the BBMAs, however, Clarkson has occasionally returned to her signature longer locks, sporting midlength waves on recent episodes of The Voice and proving, once and for all, that she’s a certified style chameleon.
