Keiynan Lonsdale Accepts the MTV Award for “Best Kiss” in "Love, Simon”

The LGBTQ representation in Love, Simon made a serious impact on moviegoers when it hit theaters earlier this year. As a result, during the June 18 2018 MTV Movie and TV Awards, the film received one of the most coveted pop culture accolades available: the Best Kiss award. The honor went to stars Nick Robinson and Keiynan Lonsdale who's iconic kiss took place on a ferris wheel in the film.

Although Nick wasn't able to accept the award in person, Keiynan was in attendance and used the time in the MTV spotlight to share an important message about gender roles as they pertain to love, fashion and achieving your dreams. The Love, Simon star encouraged "every kid," saying, "You can live your dreams and wear dresses. You can live your dreams and kiss the one that you love no matter what gender they are. You can live your dreams and you can believe in magic, you can live your dreams and you can be yourself."

Social media quickly reacted with emotional words of support for the actor's note. "You honestly have me in tears of joy after your acceptance speech," one person on Twitter said. "Your speech was everything. my heart is YOURS," another user said.

Keiynan, who also starred in The Flash, had previously shared with Teen Vogue how "awesome" it was to be part of the movie. "I'm so thankful for the film," he said. "One, for just being a part of it and two, it made me confront myself more and a lot quicker than I would've done without it." And based on the reaction of fans, it would appear that they're thankful for Keiynan's participation in the film, too.
