Keith Urban just let a young fan perform at his concert — and she blew everyone away with her talent
I’m pretty sure that everyone has a dream of singing next to their ultimate favorite artist, and knocking it out of the park. For 14-year-old Hailey Benedict, her dream went a few steps further — the aspiring singer/songwriter got to perform on stage with Keith Urban during one of his shows in Edmonton, AB, in front of approximately 20,000 people. She even had her stellar performance uploaded on Urban’s YouTube account for additional views. What’s even more impressive is the fact that Benedict flawlessly sang an original tune. Talk about being discovered, eh?
This wasn’t Benedict’s first time on stage. The young talent has been performing since, at least, the age of 11, and a lot of her best performances are on her personal YouTube page. But of course, this performance was likely one of the most meaningful. (And probably the most unexpected.)
“I just soaked it all in, its been one of my dreams since I was little, to look out at a crowd that big and sing one of my own songs. So the fact that one of my dreams was happening I just took every little bit in,” she said.
Another sweet moment of the night? When Urban compared Benedict and her sister, Makenna, to his own daughters. Urban gained the title of “Dad” when he and wife Nicole Kidman added daughters Faith and Sunday into their family. It seems like just chatting with the Benedict girls reminded Urban of the best parts of fatherhood.
So, let this be a lesson to you — if you’re musically talented, and Keith Urban randomly decides to pull you on stage, make sure to shove your nerves aside and give an incredible performance like young Hailey. And as for you, Hailey? We know we’ll be hearing more original hits and gorgeous covers from you very, very soon. We’re sure this is just the start of an extraordinarily successful career.
