Nicole Kidman says that her husband, Keith Urban, played it cool when they first met.

The Nine Perfect Strangers actor talks about her courtship and marriage in her October cover interview for Harper's BAZAAR. She recounts the first time she saw Urban: at a 2005 event in L.A. that honored notable Australians, which she attended with her sister.

When the "Blue Ain't Your Color" singer mentioned his mother in a speech, Kidman's sister leaned in and said, "Well, it doesn't get much better than that." Kidman recalls saying, "Yeah, but he's not gonna be interested in me."

She continues, "And he actually wasn't that interested in me at the time—which he now says is not true; he was just sort of intimidated."

The couple started talking by phone four months later, with the help of some "angels" pulling strings "behind the scenes, helping us hook up," as Kidman tells it. They were married a year later in a chapel with an ocean view in Sydney.

"Yeah. I was really, really into him," she says. "He took a little time. And he's like, 'That is so incorrect, Nicole.'"

Though the couple may not be on the same page about who was into who at the beginning, Kidman says that their marriage is all about compromise. "We're always working through stuff, but it's very much love based, so there's an enormous amount of give and take. I want him to have the best life he can have, and he responds the same way. We really love parenting together."

The Big Little Lies actor also spills the backstory on the sexy pic she posted in honor of their 15th wedding anniversary last June. The photo was taken in 2017 at Madonna and Guy Oseary’s Oscars party by the pseudonymous French photographer JR.

"He was like, 'You want to have a photo taken?' And I was like, 'Baby, kiss my neck.' And he did that," she explains.
