Kayak’s Summer 2024 ‘Travel Check-In’ Reveals Insights On Cheapest Flights And Destinations To Visit
Kayak’s latest “Travel Check-In” shared all the deets a jetsetter needs to plan this year’s summer. The online travel company’s data-based information revealed details about trends for summer flight prices. In positive news, on average, the cost of flights is down 13% this year compared to last. The only global regions where flight travel increased were the Middle East, Africa, and Asia based on those leaving from the U.S.
For U.S. travelers who want to go abroad, the cheapest flights this summer will be to Canada and Mexico. Or, travelers can also head South of the Border to Guadalajara, or Mexico City.
Kayak claims the Canadian and Mexican destinations hold its “cheapest average airfare for [the] summer,” so your pockets will thank you. Otherwise, flights to Belize City and Liberia, Costa Rica are down nearly 25% compared to last year.
The Cheapest Destinations and Times to Travel
If you are flying domestically, Kayak’s report advises you to book between late May and early June to get the best deal. Those looking for the best flight prices to Europe should check July, or consider going in early September.
Europe has four out of five of the most searched cities regarding seasonal travel despite Africa being the “#1 trending region for summer.” The European cities garnering the most interest are London, Rome, Athens, and Paris (2024 Olympics!). Another international hotspot that made the “Top 5 Most Search International Destinations” list was Tokyo.
Travelers looking for domestic getaways have searched Seattle, Las Vegas, Orlando, Honolulu, and New York City. Interestingly, Seattle claimed the top spot on the list of popular cities on travelers’ radars.
How Are Holiday Weekends Impacting Summer Travel Prices?
Domestic flight and nightly hotel room prices during the weekends of Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day have all decreased since last year. If traveling on a budget, Orlando was on the “Top 5 Domestic Cities That Won’t Break The Bank” lists for all three summer holiday weekends.
