Kay, So Will There Be a 'Mare of Easttown' Season 2?

Psssst: spoilers for Mare of Easttown Season 1 lie below. If you haven't watched thanks to, you know, HBO Max deciding last night would be a good time to crash, peace out now!

Mare of Easttown aired its devastating season finale last night, and now the question on our collective mind is: what the eff am I supposed to do on Sunday night now? Oh, and also: WILL THERE BE A SEASON 2?

Answer: it's complicated. Mare of Easttown turned out to be massively popular, like to the point where the whole damn HBO Max app broke because so many people tried to watch it. But the thing is: it was also created as a one-and-done miniseries. However! There are still a lot of lose ends to tie up, including but not limited to:

  1. Several ??? remain from Shiobhan's documentary about her brother. #1? Who! filmed! that! footage!

  2. Mare's boyfriend Richard remains suspicious. He rolls into town right as a bunch of messed up stuff starts happening, plays "the nice guy" to the extreme, and then just leaves? Something's up.

  3. Why did Dylan hold Erin's best friend at gun point? Once again: something's up.

So, will there be a Season 2? Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby tells Entertainment Tonight that he's not not open to it—if there's another compelling story to tell:

"I had planned it as one. I don't know if I was able to crack a version that I could make great. I would only want to go back to Mare of Easttown if I had a story I felt would be great and that we could give audiences what they want. So, I don't have anything. Now, if I did get struck by lightning or something and I get this great idea, then I would definitely give it a shot. Because listen, I love Mare. I love her, and I love the people in this town so much that if I felt I could give them a great season or a great second story, then I would absolutely go for it. Who knows if that will happen though."

I mean, if he needs ideas he should probably chat with the people running the Mare of Easttown Reddit because they're geniuses.
