Kaviar Gauche RTW Spring 2018

Seeing life through rose-tinted glasses, Alexandra Fischer-Roehler and Johanna Kühl showed a collection in full bloom, titled “La Vie en Rose.” “Dresses for special moments,” is how Kühl described these frothy confections in delicate tones of pink, that put paid to the idea that a woman’s wedding is her personal red-carpet moment.

Acres of cotton candy softness were to be expected, in pinks and white, as full skirts and floor-grazing lengths were the name of the game here. Some combinations felt more daring for their genre, like an angora sweater with a long tulle skirt, or a sleek pantsuit. Long ribbons with the brand’s name hit a familiar note, but emblazoned with the collection name or “With love from Kaviar Gauche,” nonetheless felt sweet. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ “Where the Wild Roses Grow” on the soundtrack hinted at these women not needing to walk down the aisle to enjoy the perks of dressing up.

A tad incongruous in a week dedicated to ready-to-wear? Perhaps, but as codesigner Kühl noted, the traditional couture calendar that is Kaviar Gauche’s natural environment clashes with bridal season.
