This Video Of People Faking Orgasms At Katz's Deli Will Make You Die A Little Inside
As a highfalutin food professional, I know my way around a food pairing. You've got your peanut butter and jelly, your bacon and eggs, and, of course, your Katz's Deli pastrami sandwich and fake orgasms. Nora Ephron is the genius who joined the latter two together in her now famous 1989 flick When Harry Met Sally..., and people have been munching and moaning at the iconic New York City deli ever since.
Once you wriggle your way past the line of hungry tourists and age-old regulars at the original Lower Manhattan outpost, you'll see a sprawl of no-fuss tables. There's one in the middle of the restaurant with a sign hanging above it that reads: WHERE HARRY MET SALLY...HOPE YOU HAVE WHAT SHE HAD! ENJOY! (You get the reference, right? Keep up, please.) According to Jake Dell, the third-generation owner of Katz's, people come in every day to recreate the infamous scene during which Meg Ryan—or, Sally Albright—faked a big, giant orgasm right at the table.
So for the movie's 30th anniversary, Jake did the only thing there was to do: corral all those fakers in one room for an epic "O"-off. It was...climactic. And also moany and breathy and mildly uncomfortable for prudes and sexabitionists alike. Throughout the day, Sally wannabes ordered sandwiches, pounded the table, and screamed "Yes!" for a chance to win, um, some meat. (Aforementioned prudes: You can buy that same package of meat for a cool $135 on Katz's site.)
My superfluous verbiage would not cover nearly all of the insight you could glean from actually watching this video, so imma stop here and let you get to viewing (but, like, don't watch this at work...unless your office is NSFW-friendly). I will tell you, however, that a Sally lookalike showed up to Katz's for the contest and gave the performance of a lifetime, and it's honestly worth making yourself squirm while watching.
