Katy Perry Wins Over 'American Idol' Finale Viewers With Bold Outfit
Viewers had a lot to say about the 2023 season finale of American Idol, but many of the comments on social media had nothing to do with who won and instead what Katy Perry was wearing.
On Sunday, May 21, the 38-year-old turned heads wearing an orange, sparkly crop top with rose detailing down the center and a matching sheer maxi skirt designed by Giuseppe Di Morabito. She completed her bright, seasonally-appropriate ensemble with a face of subtle glam, including peachy eyeshadow, salmon lip, and her long dark hair parted off to the side in effortless beachy waves.
"orange u glad it was a great #idolfinale? 🍊🧡," Perry joked in the caption of a photo she shared of herself posing for her followers on Instagram.
Her longtime partner Orlando Bloom came out in support of the outfit, apparently speechless, as the 46-year-old actor and father of Perry's 2-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove, shared a single peach emoji followed by a fire emoji.
YouTuber and makeup artist James Charles called Perry's look "beautiful."
"The way I just COLLAPSED," a third Instagram user quipped before adding, "Serve after serve after serve. They just keep coming 👏👏."
Another squealed, "MOTHER?????!!!"
And now that Instagram has officially launched gif reactions in the comments, there were plenty of pop culture references being made praising the "Dark Horse" songstress–including celebratory clips from her own music videos and live performances.
Despite a majority of fans approving the look, there were a few haters, like one who asked if Perry was at a "swim meet" and another who aggressively tagged the star in their comment dragging whoever picked out the "not flattering" outfit. Another fan was simply unimpressed by the outfit, suggesting that the May 21 ensemble wasn't all that stunning or special.
This isn't the first time Perry's style stole the show. Just a few weeks ago, the pop star sparked controversy with fans after she debuted a unique hairstyle.
