Buckingham Palace managed to convince Katy Perry to perform at King Charles’s coronation concert on May 7. And while you might think this is a somewhat surprising decision considering a ton of other A-listers turned down the gig, Katy was actually appointed as an ambassador of the British Asian Trust (which was founded by Charles) in 2020.

As she put it in her statement, “I am excited to be performing at the Coronation Concert and helping to shine a further light on the British Asian Trust’s Children’s Protection Fund, whose work includes on-ground initiatives to fundraising, with the aim to find solutions to child trafficking.”

Katy truly turned it out for Charles’s big show, wearing a very shiny metallic gold ball gown and performing several of her hit songs, including “Roar” (which Princess Charlotte was spotted adorably singing along to) and “Firework.” Watch her full set below.

FYI, Katy isn’t the only performer at the Coronation Concert! She was joined by Take That as well as Lionel Richie, who said, “I mean, you don’t get in the business and say, ‘You know what? I’ll be at the King’s coronation.’ That just never comes up. (A) A surprise. (B) What an honor. And (C) the fact of all the names that are out there that he could have had for this, he called my name.”

The concert was enjoyed by thousands of guests, including Charles and Camilla (aka the King and Queen Consort) as well as Kate Middleton, Prince William, and their children.
