Katy Perry Shares Cryptocurrency Nail Art

"$—CrYpTo ClAwS—$"

Katy Perry has debuted some memorable manis in the past. She had eyes doodled on her nails at last year's Met Gala, and in 2015, for the last presidential campaign, she decorated her nails with Hillary Clinton's logo. But this week she unveiled not only an elaborate manicure but a very topical one. "$—CrYpTo ClAwS—$," the Instagram caption reads, under a photo of Katy showing off nails decked out in money print and accessorized with cryptocurrency symbols like Bitcoin and Litecoin. Cryptocurrency has been in the news lately as the value of a single bitcoin has skyrocketed to more than $10,000. So basically the elaborate nail designs are just another way to add some (virtual) bling to a Katy ensemble.

This isn't even Katy's first foray into the crypto craze. As Business Insider notes, in November 2017, Katy posted a photo chatting with Warren Buffet, captioning the snap, "nbd just asking Warren Buffett his thoughts on cryptocurrency." No word yet if Warren inspired Katy to take the Bitcoin mani plunge at the time. And beware: Katy's nails may or may not also have an effect on the Bitcoin bubble, as many fans took to Twitter to wonder whether the pop star's mani signaled a drop or a raise in the market.

The singer might have needed a new set of nails as a treat-yourself gesture after a kind of rough week. Katy was accused of stealing artwork from visual artist Dom Sebastian and using it as the background art for "Chained to the Rhythm." Dom wrote in an Instagram post, "I'm shocked that Katy Perry and Capital Records think it is acceptable to lift my work directly from my website and use it as they please without paying me or even contacting me."
