Katy Perry Responded to an “American Idol” Contestant Who Loves Taylor Swift

“I love her as a songwriter as well."

The rocky relationship between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift isn't exactly a secret. And while there has been talk of peace in the past, a new episode of American Idol has some on social media speculating that the feud is far from over.

The moment in question occurred after an American Idol contestant wrapped up their performance when American Idol judge Luke Bryan posed a question to him, saying: "Who do you look up to as an artist?", People reports. After appearing to think on it for a second, the contestant prefaced his response with an apology, saying "I’m sorry for this, Katy. Taylor Swift. I love Taylor Swift." Katy appeared to act like it was not a big deal, replying, "Oh, you don’t have to be sorry. I love her as a songwriter as well."

Viewers were quick to pick up on the comment, and some interpreted the remark as a potential diss in Taylor's direction. While some couldn't help but laugh at the moment, calling it "awkward", others were left "screaming" over the interaction.

Neither performer has yet addressed the incident, but it's best not to read too much into Katy's remarks. This isn't the first time that Katy has spoken about her support of Taylor's songwriting, and it's possible that she genuinely meant what she said. With American Idol only just beginning it's likely we'll hear more of Katy's thoughts on music in future episodes.
