"Katy Keene" Confirmed Its Premiere Date on the CW

Katy Keene, the upcoming Riverdale spinoff coming to the CW, finally has a premiere date. After first announcing that Lucy Hale, formerly of Pretty Little Liars, would take on the role of the aspiring fashion designer, the CW confirmed the series will officially start airing in February.

According to TV Line, the network announced a slew of winter premiere dates, and along with the return of Roswell on March 16, it was revealed that the first episode of Katy Keene will air on Thursday, February 6 at 8 p.m.

Fans have been waiting some time for this news, as the Riverdale spinoff was first announced back in January. At the time, little was known about the series and what it might entail, but since then, a number of important clues and a teaser trailer have been released.

Along with the possibility of a few appearances from some of our Riverdale faves, the show will center on Katy, her friend Josie, who you might remember from her days with the Pussycats in Riverdale, and some new friends including Jorge/Ginger Lopez (Jonny Beauchamp), a drag performer, and Pepper Smith (Julia Chan), a girl-about-town.

Lucy further opened up about the tone of the series in a recent interview. Comparing it to Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Lucy said that "Katy Keene is much brighter."

She continued, saying, "It’s about four friends optimistically trying to make their dreams come true in New York City. The way we shot the pilot, it looks like old-school New York. It’s beautiful. You feel really optimistic and inspired, so tonally it’s a lot different from Riverdale. "But I think lovers of shows like those will still gravitate to our show because it leaves you feeling good and ready to go out and chase whatever it is you're chasing."

Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that a Riverdale and Katy Keene crossover could happen, but as the shows have proven in the past, references to the connected series often show up in some unlikely places.
