Katie Holmes arrived at the launch party for Melissa DeRosa’s new book “What’s Left Unsaid: My Life at the Center of Power, Politics & Crisis,” on Monday in New York City, taking a utilitarian-inspired approach to style. Holmes wore an olive vest overlay over a matching accordion maxidress with belted detail by Junya Watanabe. She completed the look with a black crossbody bag and black pumps.

Holmes’ style is known for being heavy on neutral colors, like black, white, navy and beige. She’s known for going after pieces in understated colors with a high fashion twist, similar to the beige vest olive dress Junya Watanabe design she wore for the book launch.

DeRosa contrasted with Holmes, wearing a Barbiecore-inspired pink dress with a subtle gradient pattern. DeRosa was the secretary to former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. She was the first woman to ever hold that role, and she worked in the position from 2017 to 2021.

During her time as secretary to the governor, DeRosa helped steer bills through the New York legislature, including the $15 minimum wage, paid family leave and expanded insurance coverage for in vitro fertilization. She was also a major force in New York’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The former government official’s book “What’s Left Unsaid: My Life at the Center of Power, Politics & Crisis” tells the story of Cuomo’s downfall after his resignation in 2021 after the Office of the New York State Attorney General found he had sexually harassed 11 women, nine of them his employees. DeRosa resigned as secretary to the governor on Aug. 8, 2021, with her resignation effective Aug. 24, 2021.

Upon Cuomo’s resignation, Kathy Hochul made history as the first female governor of New York after ascending from lieutenant governor under Cuomo.
