Katie Holmes Updated a Classic Preppy Look With Some Seriously Elongated Shoes

Leave it to Katie Holmes to snatch our attention with a single accessory. For decades, the Dawson’s Creek alum has been playing the fashion game according to her own rules, often pairing her understated staples with a piece that totally disrupts the entire look.
On Wednesday afternoon, walking the streets of New York City, the actor and director was spotted in a naval-hued ensemble that included a dark blue trench with wide lapels and a belt accessory that cinched the outerwear along the waist. She carried a black Mansur Gavriel bag, and from underneath the coat, a light blue striped dress shirt peeked out. Down low, Holmes added a pair of beige wide-leg slacks with a strong crease down the center.
All these pieces felt like classic prep, but then our attention gravitated toward Holmes’s shoes: the funky Acne Studios Bladie loafers. These black calfskin shoes have an elongated square toe that makes them quite distinctive, and they feature an added strap across the vamp, with a tan material underneath that creates a slight contrast thanks to the raw edges. The front of the toes also features a ruched detailing that gives them a strong texture.
The Alone Together star has pulled out these statement-making shoes in the past, wearing them out in NYC in February 2022. Overall, Holmes has been known to get playful with her footwear, from her glittering ballet flats at ABT’s Summer Season Opening in 2023 to her metallic knotted sandals at the 76th annual Cannes Film Festival. Love ’em or hate ’em, it’s clear Katie isn’t afraid to take a risk.
