For Katie Holmes, there are two things that are important to her: continuing to build an illustrious career in Hollywood and being a mother to 16-year-old daughter Suri Cruise. While she usually can separate the two, she recently admitted to her daughter giving her a blast from the past.
In a new interview with Variety, the actress opened up about her run in the off Broadway play The Wanderers and her upcoming film Rare Objects. As she talked about trying to balance work with her every day life, she shared a personal anecdote about Suri during the COVID-19 pandemic. It turns out that Suri began watching the late '90s TV show that made her mom famous.
"[Suri] has seen Dawson’s Creek, and I think it’s probably weird since she’s a teenager," she told the outlet on March 28. "I’m not like, 'You need to watch mommy’s work.'"
The actress continued: "But during the pandemic, we had a good laugh about it. It’s wild to have a daughter who’s almost the same age as I was when I began all this."
Since Katie often refrains from speaking about her daughter, people couldn't help but love this surprise detail about their relationship. Given how her character Joey Potter overcame a number of struggles and romances on Dawson's Creek, folks had a lot of thoughts about Suri's opinions on the hit drama.
"So awkward for Katie 😂😂 the fashion, the plots, I bet they had a good laugh!" one person wrote on Instagram. "I was obsessed with this show!!" another added. "That's absolutely precious ... I know my girl Suri is Team Pacey," a different follower noted on Twitter, referencing Joey's relationship with Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson).
While Suri is gaining insight into how Katie made it big in Hollywood, she's also assisting her mother on the projects she's working on now. She sang a cover of Frank Sinatra's "Blue Moon" for the Batman Begins actress' 2022 film Alone Together. According to Katie, she didn't tap Suri for the part because of their familial bond but because of what she brought to the table.
"Well, I always want the highest level of talent, so I asked her," she told Yahoo! Entertainment in July 2022. "She's very talented. She said she would do it and she recorded it, and I let her do her thing. That's the way I direct in general. It's like, 'This is what I think we all want and then go do your thing.'"
