In case you hadn’t heard, Katie Holmes is in the middle of a style renaissance. The actress has never been a stranger to designers, but 2019 has seen Holmes get experimental, ditching safe choices for pieces with personality. After going viral with a cashmere Khaite bra last month and indulging in a moment of Saint Laurent-fueled sexiness at the opening of Nordstrom’s New York flagship, Holmes continues to have fun with unexpected fashions. Spotted at the launch of designer and entrepreneur Waris Ahluwalia’s organic tea line, House of Waris Botanicals, Holmes delighted in dots, wearing a wrap dress from Michael Kors’s Spring 2020 collection. Paired with bejeweled white pumps, gold chains, and an on-trend mini-purse by Frame, it was the perfect look for partying atop The Standard.

Kors’ collection may have been 1940s themed, but the dress with its sculpted shoulder pads, puffy sleeves, and asymmetrical hemline channeled the vibrant look of New York’s 80s party scene. A fan of sheer black hose and white shoes after Labor Day, Holmes incorporated both elements into the look. Standout extras always make a difference but her best accessory was the bright smile she wore as she partied the night away.
