If we’ve learned anything from Katie Holmes’s street style, it’s that you really can be the coziest, comfiest person in the room while also being the most chic.

The actor and Rare Objects director was seen out shopping in New York City this morning in a look that layered several key winter staples. The standout piece was a long, oversize double-breasted camel coat with black buttons. (A similar style, from Nili Lotan, is available at Saks Fifth Avenue.) Holmes wore the coat over a white top, gray zip-up sweater, and black flared jeans.

The actor finished the outfit with pointy brown suede ankle boots, a ribbed white beanie, large round pink sunglasses, and a brown leather tote bag. She seemed to wear no makeup and had her straight hair down.

Holmes has debuted various great winter coats this season. Earlier this week, she stepped out in a long, black double-breasted coat, with a clean, tailored fit and sharp lapels. Holmes layered the statement outerwear over a black turtleneck top and black straight-leg jeans. For footwear, she relied on a classic pair of black leather loafers and accessorized with amber-tinted retro sunglasses, layers of gold chain necklaces, and a large black leather tote bag.

And this past December, she wowed in a long speckled gray coat from French fashion house Patou. She styled the coat with a sleek black turtleneck tucked into a pair of pleated high-rise and wide-leg jeans in a dark blue wash from Another Tomorrow. The Dawson's Creek alum then added a pop of color to the outfit with a bright red half-moon bag on a crossbody strap (also from Patou), and some glamour with a pair of glossy black leather pointed-toe boots.
