Katie Holmes's Red Satin Look Proves She's on a Retro Streak

Okay, but can anyone blame Katie Holmes for eschewing 2018 in favor of tried and true retro digs? No. The answer is no.

The Dawson’s Creek alum proved you’re never fully dressed without a diamond choker on Thursday evening when she attended an N.Y.C. Harry Winston event in a look dripping with old Hollywood glamour (and also bling, obviously).

Holmes, 39, looked as though she’d traveled through time from the 1950s in a red satin body-hugging off-the-shoulder Zac Posen dress that fell just below her knees. The actress wore her dark locks in swooping romantic curls, accessorizing with a multi-jeweled diamond choker (Harry Winston, we’d guess) and a set of matching drop earrings. Katie complemented her scarlet-hued gown with a bold red lip and a pair of taupe sandals.

Just last week, the actress gave another sartorial nod to Hollywood’s golden age in a white halter gown reminiscent of the iconic costume Marilyn Monroe wears in The Seven Year Itch. A week before that, she had us feeling ready for an '80s prom in a purple Isabel Marant puffy-shoulder dress. Why bother with a trend from 2018, truly, when you look this good in anything else?

If taking red carpet inspo from the past is wrong, we don’t want to be right.
