The comedian opened up about how her traumatic experience in 2017 led to mental health struggles.

Kathy Griffin is offering fans an important update about her mental health.

The comedian shared the news in a TikTok video, uploaded to the social media platform earlier this week, where she revealed she's been diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder.

"Okay TikTok, let's talk about it then: let's talk about PTSD," she started off the video.

Griffin continued, "[I] never talked about it publicly. I think this is the place to do it because I've seen a lot of videos about it so…anyway, this is going to sound whatever, you can laugh or whatever, but I've been diagnosed with complex PTSD and they call it an extreme case."

She then invited fans to share their own experiences with PTSD, asking for their tips on how to cope.

"If any of you know my story, you'll understand that this really started for me about 5 and 1/2 years ago," she said, in reference to the immense backlash she received for her controversial photoshoot featuring her holding a prop made to look like Donald Trump's bloodied, decapitated head.

As a result of the photos, the comedian was fired from her New Year's Eve co-hosting gig at CNN and her stand-up shows were canceled. She was also added to the no-fly list, as well as the "kill list" of convicted domestic terrorist Cesar Sayoc.

A few days after her TikTok about the PTSD diagnosis, Griffin made a second video thanking her fans for their support. She also delved into how she experiences panic attacks, explaining that she typically gets them in the morning, with the pressure beginning in her chest and then spreading to her stomach, causing nausea.

"So far today I'm okay, and that's how it is. I just kind of never know; it's day by day," she said at the end of the TikTok.

Through part of this time, Griffin has also been dealing with a lung cancer diagnosis, which she says certainly "didn't help."
