Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt wants her daughters to embrace that same simple, timeless fashion her own mom Maria Shriver is known for.

Speaking to PEOPLE about her interview-based series The Grandmother Project, Schwarzenegger Pratt noted that she has been "lucky enough" to draw inspiration from her own mother's parenting as she transitioned into becoming a mom to her daughters — Lyla Maria 3½, and Eloise Christina, 23 months, with husband Chris Pratt, 44 — especially when it comes to dressing her girls.

The proud mom notes that her mother, Maria Shriver, saved her clothes from when she was little, which has been fun for Schwarzenegger Pratt to have her own daughters dress just like her.

"To be able to now have my girls wear those clothes and to have them still be in style and of the moment, it's such a cool thing to be able to [see]," Schwarzenegger Pratt tells PEOPLE. "I send my daughter to preschool in the outfits that I used to wear to preschool."

"I think when it comes to fashion, I have grown up watching my mom have this natural beauty, this timeless fashion that I feel like is not as popular now," she continues. "It seems like everything is like a trend or a moment, and I look back on something that my mom wore when I was little and it's something that I would still wear today."

Schwarzenegger Pratt says that her mom taught her that while makeup and fashion can be fun, it's also important to be comfortable and confident in your own skin without all the glitz and glam.

Adding that her mom was and still is such an incredible example for her and her sister, Schwarzenegger Pratt says that having that concept be absorbed by her own daughters now is "such a huge gift."

"It's something I'm really mindful of now having daughters of how we speak to ourselves, what we wear, how we have fun, how we play with makeup, play with our hair, all the different things that I want them to enjoy about life and about being young girls and growing up," she says.

"And also to be able to love their natural beauty and know that they're beautiful inside and out and be comfortable in their own skin," Schwarzenegger Pratt continues. "That's a huge gift my mom gave me that I feel like transfers over from beauty to fashion."

Speaking about seeing the fashion at the 2024 Met Gala, the Good Night, Sister author says that when she saw photos of her own parents and grandparents at a past Met Gala, it was "such classic timeless fashion that I feel like we don't really see that much of now."

"So when I see it, I'm like, 'Oh my gosh. It's incredible. I love that.' And I think I'm even more aware of it now as a mom to two girls. Just like the importance of simple, timeless beauty fashion."
