Add Katharine McPhee to the awesome club of celebrity moms who love their postpartum bodies with all their perfect so-called imperfections. In an Instagram story yesterday, the new mom proudly shared a bikini selfie with the words, “Loving my curves because my baby gave them to me.”

Right on, mama! Like Ashley Graham, Chrissy Teigen, and more strong, proud moms, McPhee is showing everyone that there is no need for a body to “bounce back” to pre-pregnancy shape. (In fact, can we just be done with that phrase already? Please?) If your body just grew and birthed a tiny human, allow yourself to bask in its glory — curves, loose skin, stretch marks, and all — without comparing it to what it looked like before.

McPhee, who welcomed her first child, son Rennie David, last February with husband David Foster, told PEOPLE earlier this month that she was in no hurry to get her pre-baby body back — and that definitely represents a journey of growth for the American Idol alum.

“I thought I would have this pressure [to bounce back] but I’ve just been so grateful and happy that I’ve had a healthy baby and I’ve felt really good, emotionally and physically,” she told the outlet.

“I’m so happy that I don’t have this crazy pressure yet to fit into whatever jeans I have in my closet,” she continued. “I don’t even think about them right now! In my everyday life, I would have an event coming up or need to work out and it’s just really nice to have a break and be happy where I am.”

McPhee has previously struggled with disordered eating and bulimia, so her postpartum body confidence is a healthy sign of her progress after a slight relapse in her first trimester. In a recent episode of Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast, the American Idol alum explained that her issues with food and weight just suddenly came up again after getting pregnant, though she had felt really stable for about five years.

“But feeling like there was a relapse after getting pregnant was really shocking and upsetting and concerning for me, because I was suddenly so obsessed with food, starting from this first trimester, and I had such a distortion of the way that I looked,” she said in the podcast.

McPhee worked with a psychiatrist who helped her understand “that it’s really common for women who have struggled with eating disorders in the past to have almost a relapse, in some sense, when they enter pregnancy” and her disordered thoughts eased after her first trimester.

From celebrities to us “normal” folks, we’ve all got to do the work to unlearn the negative body messages that society feeds us and that contribute to the ways we feel about our bodies. It’s not easy — so kudos to McPhee for her progress on this front!
