Kate Winslet is not slowing down anytime soon. The actress, fresh off her very successful HBO limited series Mare of Easttownshe starred in as Detective Mare Sheehan, a role for which she won an Emmy in 2021—has teamed up with the network for two more limited series.

The first, Trust, is an adaptation of Hernan Diaz's novel of the same name set on Wall Street during the 1920s and 1930s. The second, The Regime, will focus on a single year inside an authoritarian regime as it begins to crumble.

This week, the show debuted its first trailer, giving us a peak into the darkly comedic promise of the series, along with an official premiere date: the show will being airing on Sunday, March 3, 2024.

Here's everything we know about The Regime (previously called The Palace) so far.

Kate Winslet will star in, and executive produce, The Regime.

The Regime will be Winslet's third HBO original series. Winslet will star as a chancellor of an unnamed European power. The show will be directed and executive produced by Stephen Frears and showrun, written by, and executive produced by Will Tracy.

British director Frears is perhaps best known for his 1988 romantic drama Dangerous Liasons, and 2006 film The Queen. Tracy, most recently, has written on Succession and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

“We are honored to be working with this incredibly talented group of filmmakers on The Palace," HBO Executive Vice President of Programming Francesca Orsi said in a statement. "The notion that Kate Winslet and Stephen Frears, two of our industry’s leading lights (who – remarkably – have never collaborated before now), are joining forces to bring Will Tracy’s wildly original, prescient, and dazzling scripts to life at HBO is a dream come true for us."

In December 2022, Hugh Grant joined the cast in a guest role—details of which have yet to be released, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, Danny Webb, David Bamber, Henry Goodman, Stanley Townsend, Louie Mynett, Rory Keenan, Karl Markovics and Pippa Haywood.

Gary Shteyngart is one of the writers for The Regime.

HBO announced that writers on the show include Seth Reiss, Juli Weiner, Jen Spyra, Gary Shteyngart, and Sarah DeLappe.

Shteyngart, most recently the author of early pandemic novel Our Country Friends, is familiar with the subject of "collapsing authoritarian regimes" In his political satire books like Absurdistan and The Russian Debutante's Handbook, he addresses the fall of the Soviet Union.

HBO has already ordered the show to series.
