How to Get Kate Upton's Perfect Smoky Eye in 10 Seconds

Model Kate Upton turns 24 today, and while the birthday girl has already celebrated by parading her backside through the streets of New York City, we’re toasting to the model’s near quarter-century mark by learning how to get her signature makeup look — the dramatic smoky eye.

Tracy Murphy, Upton’s go-to makeup artist and founder of the newly-launched Lash Star Beauty makeup line, stopped by to show us how to get the look for our “Life-Changing Tips” video series, in which she revealed achieving the Upton Eyes can be super quick, easy and “idiot-proof” with the help of her “magic weapon,” a kohl eyeliner pencil.

To get the look, “go in the top water line and trace on that,” she advises. “Then you go in the bottom water line and get really dense, work it into the root and squish your eyes, and then soften the edges with a Q-Tip.” You can see her doing this on Upton in the Instagram video below using a product from her Lash Star Beauty line (the eyeliner is a prototype, and is not out yet, but will be soon).

This look is a go-to for big bold looks, which Upton loves, like when she wore it to the Met Gala last month. “When people are doing red carpet, I really like to use this to make the eyes really pop because the dense black of the kohl liner against the white of the eye is just magical,” says Murphy.
