The intention of A Very Berry Christmas special was for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to highlight causes that are important to them and to celebrate the volunteers and employees who serve others during the holiday season. But given that their co-host on the program was British icon Mary Berry, the subject of baking was bound to come up.

So while frosting cupcakes, Berry brought up the subject of birthday cakes for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. "Who makes the cake?" she asked.

Kate responded by sharing a sweet royal birthday tradition. "I love making the cake," she said. "It's become a bit of a tradition that I sort of stay up until midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing. I make far too much, but I love it."

While William, Kate, and their three children live in a veritable palace, they don't have all their meals prepared by a private chef.

"They have a small household and can fend for themselves," former Kensington Palace chef Carolyn Robb revealed to Racked in 2015.

"They’ll probably want to do that for as long as they can — have a normal family life — because that will really change when you have butlers and nannies and cooks around. The house is no longer your own. I'm sure they want to just be leading a normal family life."

In fact, Kate shared with Berry she enjoys cooking with the kids in the kitchen. "Actually one of the last things we cooked together was your pizza dough. We made pizzas with your pizza dough recipe ... They absolutely loved it."
