The beauty industry is seeing an expansion of more natural brands, and consumers are leaning towards purer products with transparency. How do you know what is really “cruelty-free”? Which body and skincare products are actually “natural” ? We see words like “vegan” and “organic” on labels, but what do these words really mean?

Kate Sands, on-air style host and founder of a lifestyle blog HonestlyKate, joins me on this episode of Accidental Beauty Blogger to talk about all things vegan, cruelty-free and organic.

A vegan product does not contain any animal ingredients or animal-derived ingredients, as Sands says it’s a product that is “not tested on animals.” But this is not limited to honey or beeswax. Cruelty-free falls along the same category, and it is a “product isn't made with any animal products,” according to the lifestyle expert. Lastly organic, means that the products contain organically-grown ingredients; however, according to Sands this can become a bit tricky. She explains that “you only need about five percent organic ingredients for them to call it organic,” meaning the product doesn’t have to be 100 percent organic to have that label.

Sands stands behind clean products and swears by authenticity, especially when it comes to Honestly Kate. So I had the pleasure to have her break down some beauty buzzwords and share three cruelty-free products that she believes are the best to use, especially during quarantine.

Make sure to watch above as Sands takes us through a more natural beauty journey of knowledge and fun, and read below for more details!

Cleo+Coco Natural Charcoal Deodorant

This is an award-winning natural deodorant with activated charcoal that work to eliminate odor and absorb wetness throughout the day. It’s free of aluminum, parabens, synthetic fragrance and is cruelty-free.

Sands uses Cleo+Coco Natural Charcoal Deodorant as an alternative to regular deodorants. She says, “the more I used the product, the more my body absorbs it and understood what I was putting in.”

TULA Rose Glow & Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm

This eye balm is a plant-based product that hydrates and improves the skin’s appearance over time, waking up those under eyes with rose hip oil and vitamin C. The best part is that you can also use this balm over makeup for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Sands recommends using this skincare product to add more hydration to the skin, especially the under-eye area.

Pacific Glacial Clay Detoxifying Mask

Rich in minerals, this clay mask works to reduce the appearance of pores, hydrate skin, balance pH and provide UV protection.

Sands suggests this mask because it is a 2-in-1. She explains, “It not only works as a detoxing mask for your face but also works as a spot treatment. And I have yet to find a spot treatment that is clean.” She also adds that due to the quarantine, her skin has started to break out, and using this product has helped her pimples go away.
