Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, joined her husband Prince William, Prince of Wales, King Charles III and Camilla, Queen Consort, in attendance at a lunch held for governors-general of the Commonwealth nations. On the afternoon of Saturday September 17, the four royals gathered at Buckingham Palace in London to greet foreign dignitaries, heads of state and other VIPs.

Honouring not only Queen Elizabeth's legacy by wearing the monarch's rarely-seen broach in the procession of her coffin to Westminster Hall, Kate also paid tribute to the late Princess Diana. On her wrist, the Princess wore an elegant three-strand-stacked pearl bracelet which is thought to be from Diana's collection.

Adhering to the royal mourning protocol, the mother-of-three donned an all-black ensemble consisting of a pleated black dress. She matched the pearl bracelet with a three-strand-stacked pearl necklace believed to be the Queen's. The late monarch particularly loved the piece, wearing it on many official engagements and so the Princess of Wales' choice was a particularly symbolic one, nodding to the Queen's legacy in fashion.

To mark the Queen's funeral today (19th September), the Royal Family released a previously unseen photo of Her Majesty overnight, wearing the same pearl necklace.

"Ahead of Her Majesty The Queen’s Funeral, a new photograph has been released," the Royal Family said on its official Instagram account. "It was taken this year to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, as she became the first British Monarch to reach this milestone."

The caption continued: "Tomorrow, millions will come together to commemorate her remarkable life."

Since her passing, several members of the royal family have paid tribute to the Queen with their choice of attire – in particular, their jewels.

On Wednesday, for the arrival of Queen Elizabeth's coffin at Westminster Hall, Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex, appeared to be wearing a set of pearl and diamond earrings that were given to her by the Queen shortly after she married Prince Harry in 2018.

Camilla wore a significant brooch to honour the late Queen as she accompanied The King to a vigil service of thanksgiving at St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh.

And with this not being her first occasion to honour the Queen, The Princess of Wales sported stunning pearl and diamond earrings that previously belonged to the late monarch while greeting Commonwealth troops on Friday.
