Kate Middleton has got a few key hairstyles pretty much locked in. A soft wave, a bouncy blow, a chic up-do, but one word you don't think of to describe her hair, is big. Tides however, may be changing...
Just last week we saw her go large with XL Princess curls at the Boston Celtics game, and now she's gone for a seriously impressive 60s bouffant that quite frankly, is defying gravity.
K-Mid, or Catherine, Princess of Wales (as she's more formally known), was chatting to guests during a Diplomatic Corps reception at Buckingham Palace and while her Jenny Packham dress was an eye-catching bright red, our eyes were instantly drawn to her new 'do.
It really is something, and unlike a beehive updo or a half-up style, this sculptural hair hill really is holding itself up. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't wondering if there was a giant sponge under there. Because how can it look so smooth with the amount of back-combing and hair spray a construction like this necessitates.
At first I thought maybe it was the angle, but on further inspection it really was just as volumised and bold as it first appeared. The triumphant bouffant was matched with soft sleek straight tresses as opposed to 60's flicks or full body waves, and really needs a close up to do it justice.
For the finishing touch, the bouffant sported the Lotus Flower Tiara. A diamond headpiece made from a necklace given to the late Queen Mother by her husband George VI in 1923, as a wedding present, and then worn by their daughter Princess Margaret. That bad boy doesn't sound lightweight does it? And yet that hair's not budging an inch.
