Kate Middleton's Grandma Was a WWII Codebreaker

From ELLE

Kate Middleton didn't just marry into a family with a cool history, she was also born into one. The Duchess of Cambridge just penned a beautiful forward about her grandmother, Valerie Glassborow, who worked as a codebreaker during Word War II.

According to Time, Middleton's news comes as GCHQ, the UK's Signals Intelligence and Cyber Security agency, announced the release of its first-ever puzzle book. The book is inspired by the men and women who have worked to crack codes and is meant to challenge readers' minds.

Middleton's investment in the book is twofold. Not only does she have a personal family connection to codebreakers, but proceeds from the book will benefit Heads Together, the mental health awareness campaign she works on with Prince William and Prince Harry. Yes to all of that.

"I have always been immensely proud of my grandmother, Valerie Glassborow, who worked at Bletchley Park during the Second World War," she wrote in the forward for the puzzle book. "She and her twin sister, Mary, served with thousands of other young women as part of the great Allied effort to break enemy codes. They hardly ever talked about their wartime service, but we now know just how important the men and women of Bletchley Park were, as they tackled some of the hardest problems facing the country."

Just when we thought Kate Middleton couldn't possibly get any cooler, she completely proved us wrong.
