Kate Middleton Wore Princess Diana's Sapphire and Diamond Earrings to Trooping the Colour

For her outfit this morning at the 2022 Trooping the Colour parade, Kate Middleton turned to the jewelry collection of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. She paired a custom white blazer dress by Alexander McQueen (a repeat from 2021) and a navy and white fascinator by Philip Treacy with sapphire and diamond earrings previously owned by Diana.

The double-drop sapphire and diamond earrings are believed to be part of a suite of jewelry gifted to the late Princess by the Crown Prince Fahd of Saudi Arabia for her wedding. Notably, Diana paired the earrings with a sapphire and pearl chocker during a visit to Ottawa, Canada in 1991, and again at the Met Gala in 1996.

In 1986, Princess Diana also famously wore the earrings with a sapphire and diamond headband, made with jewels from the same Saudi suite:

This is hardly the first time Kate has worn Diana's jewelry; the most famous piece of jewelry Kate inherited from Princess Diana is her sapphire engagement ring, which coincidentally matches these earrings. However, this is the first time Kate has worn these specific earrings in public.

Yet, Kate has worn another pair of sapphire and diamond earrings frequently in recent years, believed to also be from Diana's collection. These earrings feature just one drop:

Despite Kate's stunning earrings from Diana, her kids—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—undeniably stole the show during the Trooping the Colour parade. The three royal kids made their Trooping the Colour carriage debut this year, riding alongside Kate and Camilla, Duchess of Cambridge.

Trooping the Colour is the first of many events the Cambridges are expected to attend this weekend in celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
