The engagements keep coming for the Duchess of Cambridge. This morning, she made a surprise appearance at LEYF (the London Early Years Foundation) Stockwell Gardens Nursery & Pre-school in support of her new survey about early childhood development. Kate had previously intended to visit the nursery school last week when she launched her "5 Big Questions on the Under Fives" initiative, but inclimate weather forced a change in plans.

Today, she met with staff at the pre-school and also helped to serve breakfast to the kids, highlighting the importance of childhood nutrition.

“Parents, carers and families are at the heart of caring for children in the formative years, so that is why I want to listen to them. As a parent I know how much we cherish the future health and happiness of our children," Kate said of the survey, which is live now, here.

“I want to hear the key issues affecting our families and communities so I can focus my work on where it is needed most. My ambition is to provide a lasting change for generations to come.”

For this morning's event, the duchess wore a striking teal coat over a black and white ensemble: a slim pair of black trousers paired with a delicate white sweater from Sezanne. She accessorized the outfit with black ankle boots and gold earrings.

It was a much more casual look than the ones we've seen from Kate recently. For example, yesterday, she visited a children's hospital wearing a gray Dolce and Gabbana skirt suit, and on Monday, she attended a Holocaust memorial event wearing an elegant coat dress by Catherine Walker.
