Kate Middleton Wore an Ethereal Capelet Frock by Her Own Wedding Dress Designer
All week long, Kate Middleton has been bringing her fashion A-game while overseas in Switzerland, playing bandy hockey in a pair of cozy (and affordable!) Sorel boots and later channeling her late mother-in-law in an impossibly chic red houndstooth coat. It was the gown she wore while attending an official dinner at the Norwegian palace in Oslo, however, that all but took our breath away.
Unlike Meghan Markle, who chose a sleek pantsuit for her first black-tie event with Prince Harry, Middleton, 36, opted for a flowing blush Alexander McQueen ballgown with a sparkling embellished neckline and delicate capelet sleeves to dine with Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit of Norway. She finished the look off with some serious bling, opting for dangling diamond earrings and a diamond bracelet Queen Elizabeth II wore on her own wedding day back in 1947.
As you may recall, it was Sarah Burton, the creative director of Alexander McQueen, who designed the Duchess of Cambridge’s own wedding dress back in 2011.
The similarities ended there, however: Where the soon-to-be mommy of three’s wedding gown featured a lace bodice over a sweetheart neckline and a full skirt that fanned out into a flowing train, famously requiring sister Pippa Middleton’s assistance, the short, lightweight train of the newer design required no extra hands.
With its high-cut waist and billowing fabric, it also expertly hid her growing baby bump, giving the royal the appearance of an ethereal angel.
Honestly, we couldn’t dream up a more fitting (or beautiful!) piece for her last overseas visit before we meet Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s baby sibling.
