Kate Middleton Wore a Black Coat Dress to Thank Those Involved in the Queen's Funeral

The royal family is still mourning the passing of the late monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, but the new Prince and Princess of Wales have taken time out to show their appreciation for volunteers and staff in Windsor who facilitated the Queen's committal service on Monday, as well as those who helped with the crowds of well-wishers who gathered to pay their respects to the Queen in the days following her death on September 8.

The royal couple headed to Windsor Guildhall, the town hall of Windsor itself, to meet with the many who played a role in the momentous occasion. Kate remained in black for the meeting, donning a double-breasted black coat dress embellished with brass buttons along with sheer black hosiery and black pumps. William wore a navy suit and black tie—an echo of the military uniform he wore to the Queen's funeral, as well as the pairing that his son, Prince George wore on the solemn occasion.

Windsor has, of course, played an important role in the wake of the Queen's death. Though she ultimately passed away at Balmoral, the royal family's Scottish summer retreat, the Queen spent much of her time in the last years of her life at Windsor Castle, which she relocated to during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the wake of her death, Kate and William reunited with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Windsor to view floral tributes left in the Queen's honor and greet members of the public—their first public appearance as a foursome since Harry and Meghan stepped back as working royals.

Following the official state funeral on Monday, the Queen was interred in the King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle.
